Which company is the best to go through. My friend used Amerdebt. I was goign to use that but I heard they were in trouble. Is there a way to check up on a company before you decided to use them?

Amnd - if you are seeking a debt consolidation company, the best way to check up on them is through the Better Business Bureau. Their website is http://www.bbb.org

Look for a history regarding the complaints filed against the company, and how the company handled them.
