Hey if anybody can give me any info MTE I would appreciate it, I would like to know what is going on with them thanks

Hi, welcome to the forums!

I have never dealt with MTE personally, but I really THINK that they are an AKA of Rio Resources. Rio is an old favorite around here, they think they don't have to follow any of the laws in the US.

Do you have a loan with them?

MTE stands for Miami Tribal Enterprises. Theoretically, Rio Resources markets loans, does customer service and collects on delinquent accounts for the Miami Tribe of Eastern Oklahoma. In reality, Rio does all the lending and controls everything. It pays the tribe a fee for legal cover. If you look close at the C&D letter that got so much hype, it only tells Rio it can't engage in payday lending in Oklahoma. MTE isn't mentioned. Why? Because tribes have sovereign immunity and states can't issue C&D's or file suits against them unless Congress passes a law that says they can. (Like they did 20 years ago when all the tribes started opening ca$inos.)

Sucks, but it is what it is. If you want to go after someone about an MTE loan, you have to go after Rio. The tribe is pretty much off limits. On the other hand, just because you can't sue a tribe doesn't mean they have any more right to come after you in your own state. And if they do, they waive their immunity and you can file a countersuit. Something to keep in mind when collectors start making stupid threats.
