IRS debt

I owe 15,000 to the IRS since 1998. I have been put on a payment plan but I can't afford it. $400.00 per month. I have heard of IRS tax settlement agenies are they scams too. I know one that charges 3,500 to settle. If I had that I would send it to the IRS. Any suggestions?

I don't know anything about those settlement agencies, but I would check tham out with the BBB. Sometimes if you speak with the IRS, they will settle for a smaller amount. A friend of mine paid for years, and finally got them to settle for a lower amount. Speak with them, tell them you can't afford the payment, but want to get this settled, can't hurt, and maybe it will do some good..Good Luck..Karen

I am sorry to hear about your problems. Talk to a debt counselor for your options. Few companies consolidate IRS debts. Since this is a federal debt, the govt will not spare your payments. I am not trying to increase your worries, but I want you to be prepared of the consequences that can happen if you don't pay. Do you have any insurance or 401K plan?
