How can we get CIC to refund money?

Nov. 19 I subscribed to this "free" credit report, within minutes they had charged me $92.57. Same story as everyone else. Please, please, go to Rip-off Report.com and file a complaint there, along with the other 1,470 others (including mine). This is where Attorney Generals, other authorities go to see how customers are being taken care of. They wont refund my money, so I filed a report with BBB, FTC, Attorney Generals Office, consumerwatch(at)cbs5.com. Will let you know what happens. Kathy

I think that if one of us was to try to come up with a scam, there would be ppl out there that would fall for it. That is just how EASY it is to fool ppl...

Now, while I have been to that site and that cost is mighty high, they do spell out what you are signing up for.
I mentioned this elsewhere - if you are asked for information that seems unrelated to what you are requesting, you should be warey. Giving a credit card number for a "free" item tells you that you have given this place a way to charge you.
For the future, if you TRUELY want a free copy of your credit report from the big 3, you need to go to:
annualcreditreport.com
From there, you can get a copy of your credit report from each of the big three, and you will not be signing up for some BS credit monitoring prgm as you do thru the free credit report site.
In fact, I just checked the free credit site and right on the front page you see this disclaimer:
[quote]When you order your free report here, you will begin your free trial membership in Triple AdvantageSM Credit Monitoring. If you don't cancel your membership within the 30-day trial period, you will be billed $12.95 for each month that you continue your membership.
ConsumerInfo.com and Freecreditreport.com are not affiliated with the annual free credit report program. Under a new Federal law, you have the right to receive a free copy of your credit report once every 12 months from each of the three nationwide consumer reporting companies. To request your free annual report under that law, you must go to annualcreditreport
Just read everything before you start entering any information.

How can we get CIC to refund money?
Good news. I told my bank that I wanted to sign an affidavit for fraudulent account activity, and that under Federal Regulation E, that they have to reverse the changes. I asked for Federal Regulation E papers too. The bank reversed the charges, because if you notify them within 60 days, they have to do this if they can't produce your signature.
So my bank is taking the loss. But these people are still making money, and it makes me mad. Bank says if this CIC can prove that this was authorized, they will reverse the decision and charge me.
A big hassle, cancelling my debit card, closing my bank account. But I am getting my money back one way or another. The local news station is interested in doing a story on these people, and I have already talked to them. They just had a class action lawsuit against them last year in which they had to refund everyone's money, PLUS pay a $950,000 fine. Maybe time for them to be exposed again.I will keep you posted.

I'm glad you were able to get the charges reversed. I think we've all learned another valuable lesson here. As Jedijeff says, if they ask for your credit card #, be wary. I don't give mine out to anyone anymore. If I want to order something on line, I buy a gift card. If it's something where they take money out every month for something ongoing, I'd rather do without. Good luck to you in the future.
