Payroll deduction not reflected on check stub

The permanent evidence of the information has to be recorded somewhere if it's not happening in the pay stub. Did you call the employer to clarify the matter?

I asked the employer why the check was short and he responded it was for a backcharge on an error that I had made in my job.

Can you ask them to show it? If they are saying it, there must be some hard proof of it.

legally, if it's an error in payroll, they don't have to show it on your stub. HOWEVER..They need to be able to provide you with copies of timesheets.

Oh..I may've misunderstood you...You made a mistake, and they deducted from your check the monetary cost of it? Most places would report that on your stub as a voluntary deduction, but it's not required. They would have to have some sort of documentation on file, however, since they need to cover their tails in event of an audit.

Auditing - This was the term I was thinking forever. I wasn't able to explain without it.
