Well I will keep everyone posted on how they are doing. I just did not feel I could deal with all of the letters and calls myself with so many lenders. Today I got my first full paycheck in over 2 years. I was actually able to pay some real bills. What a feeling. Of course the nasty-grams which I'm sure will be followed by the nasty calls have started to trickle in. I get a new home phone number tomorrow. I just wish they did not have my work number.

Just a suggestion! You can open a new bank account now and keep it optional. Just in case, if there are multiple debits from the lenders and eats up your paychecks and puts you in negatives , you can think about transferring your direct deposits to the new account as a precaution. I just thought an idea and posted here.

Thanks Keystrokes. That is exactly what I did (at the advice of forum members.) I closed my checking account and opened a new one. I was able to stay with my same bank. I simply told them I had inadvertently compromised my bank information online and wanted to close my account as a precaution to identity theft. They (Bank of America) were most helpful and understanding. I also verified with Langhorne that it was legal for me to do so. About 1 week prior to all the PDL debits I stopped writing any checks or using my ATM/Debit Card to make sure all those transactions cleared. I also put in the paperwork to stop my direct deposit. Today I got a paper check, but next week my Direct deposit will resume into the new account. I walked my paper check in and had the same nice manager who helped me switch out my account waive the hold.

It sounds like you are on the road to recovery. You will become debt free quicker than you think. When I came here last winter, I was in so much pdl debt and now I am out of it. Next fall I will be out of my regular debt as well, credit cards, personal loans. I've learned to use cash or I just don't get it. I used credit cards and payday loans as a crutch. I don't have to do that anymore and it feels pretty good :-) Keep us posted on your progress.

Well, I just hope I can get the PDL's to deal with them. I get the feeling some will and some won't. I get the distinct feeling that some will violate the law and harrass me no matter what.

I e-mailed Langhorne Law today requesting help consolidating or settling my PDL's - they both e-mailed and called me back while I was gone just a few hours later! I'm impressed - contact by a real person, not an auto-reply e-mail, and within the same day. I will keep everyone posted.

I heard back from Geneva Roth. As I expected, they denied everything and claimed they aren't even open on Sundays. As you can probably tell from our conversations, I really don't care what they say. What's important to me is that they were shaken up enough to have a supervisor hand craft a response instead of ignoring me or sending out a form letter. I doubt you will be getting any more grief from them. |
This makes me feel so much better :D
Langhorne Law Responds...
I received a phone call from Langhorne Law this morning regarding my PDL situation. I was advised that because I technically only have 3 PDL's outstanding (one apparently only has a small balance of $15, which I didn't know until I investigated it more), they can't help me. They say their fee would be more than what I owe. Also, they stated they don't work with any less than 4 PDL's - you have to have 4 PDL's outstanding before they will help you. I understand their viewpoint - it has to be financially benefical for everyone involved. Just wanted to give everyone an update. So that leaves me working with the PDL's on my own, I guess.

Suebeehoney...what state are you in? This community is all about helping people!!!
Hearing this, actually shows me that Langhorne does want to help people. If they were out for the quick buck, they would sign you up and charge you the fees. There are plenty of companies that will do this, but not too many who will turn business away because it is not beneficial to the client.
Langhorne Law
Hi again - thanks for the uplifting words. I'm just worried that the storefront PDL will try to take me to court on the returned check. I owe them over $500 right now, and can't afford the $106 they want me to pay every week. I will go in next week and hand them $50 and tell them that's all I have to give this week, and see what happens, I guess. I do appreciate Langhorne Law telling me up front they couldn't help me, rather than trying to rope me in like another "credit counseling" company did. They wanted $2500 for "legal fees" to settle my $1500 worth of PDL's (combined between the online and storefront), and wanted to spread it out over 30 months.
I am in MI too and I can help you with that nasty storefront!!!

Just to explain my office's general policy . . . we won't take someone on as a client unless we are reasonably confident that the combination of our fee and the likely settlements we will reach will result in a significant savings for the client. There are certain scenarios (ususally when the total number of loans is low and includes storefront loans) where I do not believe we can consistently negotiate enough of a reduction to make it worthwhile for a client to pay my fee on top of paying the lenders.

Thank you for the explanation of Langhorne Law's policies - I do understand that you don't work with a low number of PDL's because it's not beneficial to either you or the client - and I appreciate that - please don't think I was being derogatory towards your practice in any way - I was just trying to make others aware of the policy. I hope I didn't come across that way.

Langhorne is great. I have retained them less than a week and they called to tell me today that they already have negotiated two settlements and I have not even had my orientation yet! Dennis,
I like your policy because you aren't ripping people off. It's hard to find honest companies like this in this day and age. I worked with T &C in the beginning but had better luck fighting them on my own once I learned my state laws. I look forward to hearing more success stories about your company and clients :-) Thanks for being a part of the forum.

The payday loan cycle put me into one of the deepest depressions of my life. It felt hopeless and it was scary. If I would have known how easy it is to stop paying and fight back in the beginning I could have saved myself many sleepless nights. I am so thankful that I found this place. We all have that common bond. All of us are going to be just fine. I pray to God that nobody ever kills themself over any kind of debt. In the grand scheme of things money is not that important. I look around me at my blessings, and I am thankful.

I too applied on-line for a payday loan and paid them back also had them resubmit it 2-3 times a day costing me 29.50 each time they did they were called cash doctors, PD6, payday select, cash advance networks, and not to mention payday avenue and I applied for three of these I know but some of them they put into my bank account I would go to the bank and notice that 200.00 dollars were there with out asking me for an contract payday select would put it through 137.98 twice instead of puting it through for the full amount of 275.96 and I woukld have the amount in there to be taken out on a specific date and they submit when they wante dcausing me to be overdrawn I had to close my bk acct as well because of this but not as lucky as some of you because my acct still has an over -700.00 and have wrote them to make them aware tried to close my acct in july 2006 and someone there said that I couldn'nt because of these loans well look where it got me today I sent a fax to where I last had my ck acct and they never returned any calls or replied back to me of the fax I sent thye were the reason that I stand where I am now call some tell me how to clear this matter up

Update on PDL situation...
Well, it's been two weeks since I heard from any of the 3 online PDL's I have, and I haven't sent them any money. (I had overpaid them already anyway.) I contacted the storefront PDL today, because they called me yesterday, threatening legal action. I had been paying on it, but couldn't last week, and their immediate reaction was to threaten to take me to court. When I called today, I told them I have $20 between me and my next payday that I could give them, but that's all I have. They immediately went into the whole "we're going to send this to our legal department, we're going to force this to go to court, we're going to serve papers on you and garnish your wages...". But for some reason, all of a sudden, they turned nice and said to come in this Friday, give them the $20 I have, and if I make a commitment to come in every payday, they would stop the legal action. I made her repeat that part - that I would not be taken to court as long as I made payments every payday - she assured me I wouldn't, and that as long as it was paid before the end of the year, it would be ok. So at least it's coming along.

I'm glad to hear things are working out for you. And I doubt you ever hear from those 3 illegal internet pdls. You are almost pdl free! Way to go! :D

Storefront PDL...
Thanks Steelers1 - I still don't know why all of a sudden the lady turned nice on me - she's the branch manager and has routinely called me a liar, etc - even going so far as to tell me I knew I would default on this loan the minute I signed the papers to take it out. She was in the middle of telling me how they'd take me to court, then all of a sudden told me it would all be ok if I made regular payments. Weird.

Pat I find it hard to believe that you just made your last payment with Langhorne (which means you have been doing business with them for at least 6 months) and you have no idea how to reach them. Give me a break. I have only been working with them for 2 weeks and not only have them on speed dial but have their number memorized. I think you are a PDL stalker who is trying to make Langhorne look bad. Man y'all must be getting pretty desperate.

I called Langhorne today, and they told me that they don't handle storefront pdls. Is that really true? On their website, they kind of indicate that they handle both storefront and internet pdls. Anyone here have or had storefront pdls handled by Langhorne?
