I think this outfit is in violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Your example is just one of the reasons.
A debt collector is not allowed to communicate with anyone other than the consumer or the consumer's spouse. J M Adjustment will often leave their letter with whoever opens the door.
They obviously think they are allowed to do what they do, because they are a "door knock service" rather than a debt collector.
I think that's just a dodge. I'm interested in hearing from anyone in Virginia who has experience with these people. http://robertweed.com/blog

I'm a property inspector for Mortgage Companies and Banks. I receive work orders from these institutions to take photos of properties that are in Bankruptcy, Vacant, Delinquency, or in foreclosure. I am asked to make contact, unless No contact (Bankruptcy) is requested. Most banks ask that I give or place what is referred to as a door hanger at a property. This is nothing more than a notice to call their loan holder. If contact is made then I ask if they are the Owner or Tenant. If Tenant, they are not supposed to receive this notice that the owner has financial property issues at that address, which I feel is wrong. Most of the time there is no answer, which gives me the opportunity to tape the hanger to the front door for the occupant (Tenant or Owner) to read. The Tenant should perceive this as an indication something is wrong and the owner has issues. Most tenants have told me that when they have called the Owner asking about it, the Owner tells them a story that everything is fine, and it's not. Some owners will only take cheaper "cash" rent payments, which should also be a red flag that they do not want the bank to know they are renting the property.
Any rental lease agreement that you have between Owner and Tenant is between the two of you. The Bank will not honor any lease agreement and cares only about the agreement between Owner and Bank. My recommendation at this time is not to rent a property, best to rent within a rental community that does nothing but rentals. Rental community occupancy is increasing, protecting yourself from these types of home for closures.
Concerning J.M. Adjustment Services; I found a copy of their letter on one of my vacant properties, and it has no professional address of where their office is. They also tell you to call the name of the bank who has the loan along with that bank's phone number within the letter. The phone number within the letter does not match any of the numbers that I have for these institutions. Therefore, I believe it's J.M.'s number, not the banks that they are saying it is. I do believe they are a collection agency using this bogus bank phone number for you to contact them instead.
Since I might be one of many that can tell you if my work decreases means the economy is getting better. I can tell you it's not, and it continues to increase, which tell me that there is no hope for a recovery in 2011 no matter what you hear on TV.
I hope this helps. I found this question by accident and will not be monitoring this site for a response or further questions. All the best to everyone.

I got a hand delivered letter to my Home Sunday. The letter has Chase Bank on it and says J. M. Adjustment Services works for the Bank at no charge. I filed Bankruptcy and my house was discharged last June. I have not heard a word from the Bank since then.
Then I get this letter to call the Bank what should I do. PS I don't trust these people if it's from Chase why didn't they mail it ??????
