What's the law with payback on a loan for Dollar Loan Center? (Utah) I took out a $400 loan last June and I've paid a total of 1700.00 and still not finished. Can they still collect even though i've paid the loan 3 times over? I've got cancer and have had financial difficulties in paying for my medication due to numerous PDL's. I've even tried stating my condition to them and they said it was in my contract to pay until paid in full. I asked what would happen if I just stopped paying and they said they would call my employer and references every day until they got it taken care of. They said they would be very agressive and they would take legal action if needed.
I need some guidance.
One of my loans was for ZIP19 and after reading through these forums realized they are illegal to operate.
I'm just trying to find a way to stay afloat with all the PDL's.

Please tell us what state yiu live in, as laws vary from state to state. Also list the loan amounts and the total amount you have paid for each. If they are illegal loans all you need to repay is the principle amount borrowed. 1700 on a 400 loan seems a bit crazy. chances are it is an illegal loan, but cant be sure without your state

nailwoman27 99% of those loans are ILLEGAL. Is Dollar Loan center a storefront loan or internet loan?

E-payday - overpaid, request PIF + refund
Instant Cash - owe $300
Paychesk Today - overpaid, request PIF + refund
Payday Max - owe $198.26
Summit Group - overpaid, request PIF
United cash Loans - overpaid, request PIF
Zip19 - owe $200

Looks like you took the first step in closing your account. Now you will need to contact the lenders and send your proposals for a "paid in full" and refunds.

Pleas read HERE for more information. This will help you take the proper steps in contacting the lenders.

What's the proper form that I should be using in requesting a paid in full letter and a refund? I feel like i'm going in blind on these.
Dollar Loan was one I applied for online but actually went to them to collect the money. Does that make sense? I spoke to them back in Feb and they insisted I pay them off to get rid of the phone calls. They threatened to call my references every day until they got my payment. I spoke to a man that told me the only way to get out from them, since they are legit here in utah, to take a loan from someone else to pay them off. Otherwise I could call and say that I was filing bancruptcy and ask if they wanted me to list them as they are an unsecured loan? I'm not sure i understood all of that but that was the recommendation to help them release the loan. He felt like 3x over the original loan amount was absurd.

So you applied online and then picked the money up at a storefront :? They may be Legal in your state.

You will need to check with the Dept of Financial Institutions of your state for licensing information on them.

I also live in Utah, and yes, Dollar Loan Center is a legal lender here. They have helped me out many times, in fact, they are the only lenders I trust. Their interest is a lot cheaper than online lenders and I only have to pay it for the time that I have the money. Your weekly payment probably isnt too big for interest on $400, try just adding a principal payment each week and you will be paid in full in no time. Good Luck!

In regards to all of the letters that I have sent out - as of 5/7/09 - I have only received a response back from one company. Zip 19. Summit Group had their attorneys call me -Lighthouse Recovery - and after a 5th phone call at my work from Paycheck Today, I have sent them further nasty-ness today. I am absolutely fed up with their crap. Making threats at me when I've well paid them back and overpaid. Pathetic!!!

I had a 250.00 loan with them and have only paid $75.00. I just rcvd a call claiming I now owe 355.00 unless I want to avoid further collection activities. Are they licensed to do business in Utah?
It was an internet payday loan.
If they are not, I am going to only allow the balance less the 75.00 I have already paid.

It's ILLEGSL in any state for them to harass you at work. The next time they call, you need to tell them " I am officially letting you know that you are not to call my place of business anymore. If you need to reach me, then call my home or sen me a letter, but it is illegal for you to harass me at work. If it happens again I will be reporting you. Goodbye" I've done it and it works because it's true. Dollar Loan Center is legal in Utah and the interest, even though lower than others, is still outrageous. Good luck and I hope you get this settled.
