Can I sell my car prior to chapter 7? Will they know?

My car is worth about $5,000, so I don't know if it would be to my advantage to sell it prior to filing chap 7. Will they know if I had a car and sold it? Sorry, just so confused about what to do.

Yes, they will know. We sold a car for $250 and when speaking with our attorney about assets, they wanted to know who we sold the car to and where they lived. Because it happened over 1 year ago, they really didn't go too much into it because I had no idea who they were and the car was never put back on the road so there was no DMV record of the new owner. Also, because it was only sold for $250. they weren't that concerned but I think $5000. might make a big difference.
If you do sell it be very honest about it and even get the buyers name and address just in case.
