Question about Chapter 13

I am just starting Chapter 13. I have seen a lawyer, but I still have so many questions. Does this mean I have to pay my full amount of debt back? My lawyer was not clear. If I have to do this what is the point of bankruptcy? I could not pay it before I started filing. I want to keep my car that is why I am not filing chapter 7. Can someone please help. Thank You

How much you pay back is based on your income and what the trustee decides.

When you hire an attorney, if you dont understand something, ask them to explain it in laymans terms. That is what you are paying him for.

Soaplady,

Does that mean, on a $100,000 CC debt we do not have to pay back the whole amount? We are not making as much as we use to and cannot afford much, otherwise I would have done a debt settlement.

Chapter 13 is a wage earner plan. Google Chapter 13 bankruptcy.

Chapter 13 is a wage earner plan. Google Chapter 13 bankruptcy...there is tons of information. Your attorney should have explained this all to you.
