Steps taken to eliminate the errors in your credit report

20 years 1 month ago
One of the most effective ways to have negative marks removed from your credit report, is to challenge the accuracy or completeness of the information through a letter to the credit bureaus pursuant to FCRA 15 USC section 1681i. The only limit that is placed on your right to challenge information on your report is that the challenge should not be frivolous or irrelevant. It is best (though not necessary) for you to include documentation that supports your challenge.

Credit Reporting Industry Opt-Out Prescreen website

Found out a Site while trying to limit "unknown/unauthorized inquiries to my Credit Reports. Hope this Helps. Excerpt from their Website: Every day your mailbox may contain an interesting offer of pre-approved credit or insurance. These offers give you numerous choices and opportunities. However, while millions of Americans welcome these choices, others prefer not to receive such offers. Your rights as a consumer include the ability to "Opt-Out", which prevents consumer credit reporting companies from using your credit file information for pre-approved offers of credit or insurance.

Lexington Law

Has anyone heard of Lexington Law? They are supposed to help clean up your credit report and you send them money every month to do it. Is this a good idea? IF so, is a good idea while your doing debt consolidation or better to wait until after you've paid everything off? Thanks Breezi

on a settlement letter I found

20 years 1 month ago
Hi everyone. I'm new to your forum but so far I love what I see. On to the real story. I was reading about debt settlement on the net and found a letter stating something that if the creditor accepted my payment that they would delete all negative marks or it would be a breach of contract. Here is what the letter stated - I would like help analyzing the contents and to know if this is a way that could be good to go. While I have just over 10K in debt, I would like to get it fixed as soon as possible without harming me on my credit.

Invalid Debt

I left my small town to go to college, and when i left, i turned my phone in to US cellular, paid off my final debt to them, and they told me i could go, i needed to do nothing else. There wouldn't be an early cancellation fee because i was moving to a place where there was no US cellular. A month later I got a bill saying i owed $200 ( or there about). i called and talked to a supervisor, who told me they'd charged me an early cancellation fee, plus $50 i'd racked up in charges i don't remember using. i agreed to pay the $50, and they told me i had to fax in a proof of residence change.

How Do I do this?

I received my Free Credit Reports From two of the Agencies today after my area became eligible for them on 3/1/05. This can be done here: Free Annual Credit Reports This went very smoothly except the Experian one which asked me a couple verifying questions I could not answer and now have to await the report by mail, but is still free. Transunion and Equifax went very well and was available immediately on line, anyone else doing this. Read carefully before clicking away as they do try to "SELL" some of their enhanced services during this process.

I made the mistake of accepting multiple credit Cards. Now what?

20 years 1 month ago
As my topic states, I am a little unsure of the actual process. But think I am ready to start down a different road towards my future. In the past, my current paths and byways have not been so good :( I have filed bankruptcy twice in the past (mostly due to medical bills and utilities with a little credit card debt thrown in). Over the last nine years I have climbed from barely making 12/15K a year to making 50K+ a year not even counting my wife's income. But bad habits and past decisions die hard I have found :( What should the first steps I take on this path be? I am so bad at

Is this right to do?

The following is a copy of a letter I have receievd: ============================== Date 2/25/2005 [My Name], understand the default clause of your purchase and/or rental agreement has now been invoked. You will no longer be bale to make payments on your account. The entire balance must be paid in full if you wish to keep the instrument (note: a musical Instrument for School band). A representative was again at your home today to retrieve the musical instrument.
