Is Canada system linked to the one in the US?

I have a few unpaid CCs (total of about 7K) in the USA and I'm about to move to Canada - for good. I have never filed for bankruptcy. Will Canadian creditors know about my unpaid bills in the US? :(

how do i replace my cards?

Customers with a HSBC issued-General Motors Mastercard should watch their credit statements carefully because their credit information has been compromised. Criminals have obtained access to their information and could use it for illegal purposes. About 180,000 people could be affected by this breach. For the people who own this card, HSBC advises you to have it replaced. Here is an article that explains what happened. story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=509&ncid=509&e=21&u=/ap/data_theft [Link made inactive as per forum rules-Vikas]

can anyone help me in understanding the new bankruptcy laws?

I just heard on the news that congress passed the new bankruptcy laws today. So it is in our best interest to understand what the changes would mean for us. Of course the banking industry has scored a major victory. But equipping ourselves with an understanding of the new legislation would make the bankruptcy process go smoother. This NPR article spells out the new law in detail. npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4600645 [Link made inactive as per forum guidelines-Vikas]

Being Threatened with Legal Action.what to do?

A collection agency has bought my credit card debt. Now over the last 2 years it has been passed from one collection agency to another(all of which seem to be in connection with ONE lawyer. Its impossible to set up payments as when we call to do so we get paperwork back asking for our budget and what we can afford. Now that sounds great, BUT the minute we send it back they sent it to ANOTHER agency. Now the current agency wants more money then we can afford a month or they plan to take us to court. Any suggestion on what we can do would be helpful.

how to deal with years of accrued debt?

Hey all - I recently started a new job, after four years of not being able to find steady work. In that time, I have accrued serious debt through credit cards and personal loans, and I would like to start paying them all off on a regular basis. However, in order for me to live at the same time, I need to find a way of consolidating, which is hard to do when I don't own a home. Any suggestions or help getting started would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Justin

how to manage both cc and student loan debt?

Hello, all, I really need some help. When I was in college, I got a whole bunch of credit card and student loan debt. I thought I'd be able to find a job and be able to pay it off, and I haven't been able to do that. Actually, I did have a job and was starting to pay off my debts but my ex-husband was extremely abusive to me, and I had to leave my job, and thus I couldn't continue making payments. I have no idea where to start, I could get a copy of my credit report, but I'm visually impaired, and I'm too embarrassed to have my family go over it with me.
