luv2laugh	My husband and I are in about $20,000 unsecured debt. We are 21 years old and not looking to buy a house for 4-7 years. The only other thing we may need good credit for is student loans for graduate school.we are overextended and barely managing to pay minimum payments and rent. We are using money from plasma donations and internet survey sites for food.I just found out I have a 590-630 credit rating and my husband has 551 for all 3 agencies.I initially thought doing self debt settlement would be a good plan for us because it offered an actual solution and plan and then we could start anew with all the information we have learned through this process and really get on the right start.My husband told me he trusts me entirely on this matter and I have started to feel very ancy. What if I get us into a bigger hole, one that we can not get out of? Specific questions I have include:1) if you do debt settlement will you ever have the chance to get a high credit score again?2) how long does it take to recover your credit standing?3) Do you want to settle with the original creditor or do you want it to go to a collection agency so you settle for less and they have to abide by specific laws?4) Will they call neighbors, family, inform your job, etc if you are 120-180 days late?5) will the creditor generally send an account which is 120 days late to a collection agency. What is a good time to contact them to settle?6) When you try to settle for 50% of original debt, or debt which includes all the late charges, etc. from being overdue?7) we would be working with HSBC, WElls Fargo, American Express and Capital One. Any specific tips for these companies?Thanks so much.Francine S.
